'With Catalyst 12.1 AMD is finally taking application profiles to their logical extension by allowing for custom application profiles, and I couldn’t be happier. As is the case with NVIDIA, AMD is allowing users to create new application profiles and to modify the application profiles distributed through drivers and CAP updates. This not only includes settings traditionally available through the driver, but for the first time AMD is opening up CrossFire – you can now force various CrossFire modes by using a custom profile.'

This is good news. This was the only advantage I found in nvidia's drivers over AMD's until now. Looking forward to having this with my 7970s 😎

They also added in crossfire for 3D and a bunch of other improvements.

AMD has been doing well continually improving their drivers, I had better stability with the drivers for my 5870s than I have had with my 480s and custom profiles were about the only leg up I saw for nvidia's drivers.

i can already see the threads on this board with the headline "Catalyst profiles not working!!!111oneoneone"

can we really expect these to work on the first try?

what about overdrive profiles? i want my card to set Fan Speed to 55% when i enter Skyrim (and not use 3rd party tool) and back to 25% when i exit. will it be possible?

It's about damn time they let people tweak/create their own CrossFire profiles. I may actually be interested in their next generation card now.

I've only heard that you're not suppose to use the 11.3 CAPs as they can hinder performance. The 11.2 CAP release seems to be OK though.

I don't recommend these at all if you are playing BF3 with crossfired cards..I have two 6870's.

BF3 --->> 12.1, stutter and video lag, especially on the new map pack.
BF3--> 11.12 (just released today) with 11.11CAP3, best performance yet for me. Almost flawless. Zero microstutter and zero video lag... Amazing to finally play this game the way it was meant to be played.
