While it is based on Carrizo, it has gone through some upgrades, so, I don't think it fits in the Carrizo thread.
It is aimed at a different market.

The new R-series line uses the same Excavator cores we have seen in AMDs Carrizo platform but with an extra level of validation and support. An embedded platform regularly requires security, and thus features such as AMDs use of ARM TrustZone along with high performance graphics and HSA 1.0 features are all aimed at these markets. Currently at launch, AMD is submitting the processors for 'HSA 1.0 Full' validation to the HSA Foundation, and expect to be approved within a week or two.

The initial launch will be of five ‘Merlin Falcon’ processors, supporting DDR3 and DDR4 through a dual controller design, with the single module cheaper silicon being limited on memory speeds. Three of these will be APUs with 3rd generation GCN graphics while two are pure CPU silicon. There will be another set of processors coming in Q1 in the R-series as part of the iTemp line, featuring a wider validated temperature operating window from -40ºC to 105ºC. This will essentially the same silicon as the others, but requires additional validation on AMDs side. Customers requiring ISO or MIL validation will have to enquire with AMD direct.

I'd like to see AMD's regular APU's with DDR4. I'm sure the GPU (and CPU in some cases) would use that extra bandwidth pretty effectively.

Nice, sounds like something fun to play with till Zen arrives. Just need to know when these are launching and what is going to be the price tag. If its going to be cheap enough then maybe its time to start grabbing up some DDR4??

Those are for the Embedded market, they will not be cheap and not available to the consumer(e-tail/retail etc).

Someone could make a Pi like board with these chips...
I think it would make a cool project PCB with these on it.

Does this mean that we will or will not see ITX mobos based on these CPUs, under the "Embedded" category in Newegg, under Motherboards?

Since there are no AMD R-series embedded motherboards in Newegg, I highly doubt it.

Yea...would've been interesting if they also had plans to release this as a novelty consumer product...even if it's only some soldered stuff...but I'm not sure how much adjustment would have to be made for that.

That said, does look interesting. Let's see if it can actually generate revenue for em. xD

Unless the clockspeeds are very low (think fixed 15W TDP) I'd think a Merlin Falcon would be overkill for any of those things. Eh well except maybe military/industrial use, though hardening blah blah blah you know the drill.

I was wondering if I'd completely missed another AMD CPU launch! Some of the APU refreshes were very quiet... [shrug]

APU + DDR4... here's hoping.
