AMD's Audio Push (driver issue)

Does this AMD Audio Push include fixing their own broken drivers so that it outputs HDMI Audio all the time? Currently, it will NOT do this unless you do various workarounds (due to 2D clockspeeds).

Have they decided to fix this yet since they had numerous slides on Audio? I didn't see anything about it but well, I'm hopeful!

Don't most pc users still use the analog output? The graphics card audio drivers have only caused annoyances for me in the couple of years since their introduction by hijacking the primary sound spot in some applications. If they're serious about it, they need to provide analog and digital on the card.

Most PC GAMERS use it. Because they generally game with headphones (or use USB), or use some primitive form of speakers.

The fact that they released all this Audio stuff and didn't even fix this issue just drives me a little nuts. I have to either up 2D clockspeeds by doing some edits (I dunno the specifics I have to pull the guide up), or disable a power saving function on my card so that I can consistently watch video through VLC.

It's also sad because Nvidia has it working perfectly. I wasn't even aware that this could be an issue til I used AMD. I'm not going to hate on AMD since my 7950 is more Card than I had ever dreamed of getting. But man, I wish they would fix it since it really can't be that hard.

When I upgraded to a 4770K I just started using it's onboard HDMI as my audio output. HDMI audio on AMD was problematic to say the least. I didn't have too many issues with the actual playback (although sometimes it would just refuse to recognize my Smyth Realiser), but there were major issues with eyefinity. For example, every time I turned my monitors on I had to rebuild the eyefinity array from scratch. Ironically, eyefinity tends to keep clockspeeds higher so I guess that's why I never ran into the issues you did :p

Sad to say, but it seems like the best bet is to stay as far away as you can from HDMI audio on Radeons.

Realistically for this new audio capability to take off they need to allow a daughterboard or something with analogue plugs so we can get audio out that way into headphones/amps. Most users do not use HDMI and then split the sound out of the signal for the purpose of driving their headphones. They mostly plug analogue plugs into the sound sockets on their sound card/motherboard today and you aren't going to change that overnight.

I never had the problem you saw with HTMI sound as I use a sound card, but I have two friends who saw terrible problems with sound over HDMI on AMD via their amps. Both had 7970's and both ultimately gave up on them as AMD wasn't interested in fixing the issues they reported. Maybe now with a push for audio from their cards they will fix it. But then their is the counter example where AMD's high end strategy is pushing crossfire to compete with NVidia's high end single cards and look how that turned out over the last 21 months. It was far from a priority to fix the problems there and its still being dragged out.

In my opinion AMD would be better off releasing features that work, fixing the bugs that exist and focussing on the complaints their customers are making rather than adding another flaky feature that isn't thought through very well yet. I am not confident that it will work properly on release, I hope it does but I don't anticipate it will.

Fortunately, this isn't going to be a problem.

TrueAudio is an audio processor, not the delivery mechanism - if you route your sound off the motherboard audio jacks you'll still do that with TrueAudio.

Hm, I always switch between MB audio for normal PC usage, and HDMI over 7950 when I'm using it with my TV. Never had a single problem...

HDMI over 7950 when I'm using it with my TV, never had a single problem either.
