It is marketing's job to get you to buy their product, not educate you. *As long as they aren't lying, purposely skewing the comparisons, or misrepresenting theirs or the competitor's product, no fowl.

*All of which is actually lying. Just some people use a far to narrow definition of lying.

Marketing is a fair game as long as it's not those underhanded bait-and-switchesque stuff. Anyone who gets suckered in by marketing in the age of internet isn't exactly bright to start with.

Between them and Intel's processor naming right now, how the heck do you know what is going on unless you are a tech nerd like we are???

By doing a little research on the product that you're going to pay your own hard earned money on?

It doesn't take a genius to realize that there's a higher tier of cards (the 6900s), which means the 6800s aren't the successors of the 5800s and, therefore, probably not much faster, if any at all. The price tag might be the second clue.

If you buy a barts gpu thinking you're getting a state-of-the-art enthusiast video card for the price of a mid range card, you might as well click on those "you're our 999.999th costumer!! You've won a free trip to our organ-farming facility in pakistan I mean Hawaii" mail adds. And you would deserve what's coming to you In both instances (obviously I'm not talking about you in particular).

"Unlike the desktop 6990, we’re also not talking about a dual-GPU in a single card solution. Instead, the HD 6990M will be a full Barts core, with all 1120 shaders enabled"

It doesnt seem like the card is what you think it is, but will still be a powerful mobile solution.

does that make it a 6850/70?
