AMD 64 driver for Win XP is supposed to automatically control your CPU speed based on what your application needs.

Does anyone use this on a desktop? or is this for mobile 64?

Thanks,

I use it on an A64 desktop, works great. If you let windows control the throttling it doesn't work so good, but if you use a program like RMclock from rightmark(free download) it works great. My system runs at 1550mhz with 1.1vcore when idling, and ramps up to 2805mhz with 1.45vcore when CPU usage requires

I installed it, but how do you use it? It's a driver so where on the PC do I got to configure it?

Edit: Oh, you use it in conjunction with another app. Right? Sorry! :)

You use it with what GuitarDaddy mentioned, RMClock. My overclocked Venice temperature drops down during low utilization by several degrees.

It's really a life saver for an overclock CPU.

And you usually have to enable C n' Q in bios, depending on your mobo. I've been using it since the driver came out in May, and I really love it. Dropped my idle temps from 42-43c to 34-36c and also saves on the electricity bill, a real god send here in the Texas summer heat:)

Thanks GuitarDaddy, this is a handy app. I've been using Clockgen to upclock but having an on demand up/down clock is very nice. All I did was set the performance profiles to Auto Mgt and added a the low load P-State 0 = 5x/1.15v (nets 1.28v in CPU-Z). Any tips on how to best config RMClock for an A64 3000+ / A8N-SLI? Did you change any setting on the Advanced tab?

BTW, C&Q is currently disabled in BIOS as is Q-Fan. Did you need to enable either of those to get RMClock to work properly?

thanks,
John

You need to enable C&Q in BIOS for RMClock to work properly in addition to AMDCPU.exe
