amd643200+ s939 @ 2400 question

I have managed to clock my AMD64 3200 S939 Winchester chip to 2400MHz

I was wanting advice on how much i should push it .

Ive only got the Default HSF that came with the CPU , im getting a new 1 on Friday .

Heres the details :-

10 x 240 MHz @ 2400 MHz
vCore = 1.55v Default = 1.4v
CPU Ratio = x10
FSB/AGP/PCI = 240/66/33 MHz
AGP = Fixed
DDRv = 2.7v Default = 2.65v
NBv = 1.6v Default = 1.55v
SBv = 2.5v Default = 2.5v
HyperTransport-v = 1.25v Default = 1.2v

Temps

CPU = 39/40 Idle
55/57 Load

Sys = 37/38

PWM = 40/42

Motherboard is an Abit AV8 3rd Eye

2 x 256mb Geil PC-3200 @ DDR 400

This is the first AMD 64 CPU ive overclocked , I dont understand what the Hypertransport Voltage can be adjusted to ?

And how far i can push the vCore , NB , DDR , etc

Any advice would be great

Not much difference

Have you done any stress testing to make sure it's stable? If you haven't, download Prime95 and run the torture test.

If you have, then you're fine. Everything looks well within spec; your temps maybe a little on the high side, but nothing to worry about.

Where'd you get the Winchester, BTW? Retail or OEM?

I had prime running for about 2 hours last night , but it heated up to about 62/65 at times .

Im from the uk , i bought my CPU from here and it was Retail .

Im still on that AMD HSF , but im getting that Asus Star Ice Cooler on Friday 🙂

Thats good i wasent sure how high you can raise the vCore on AMD 64 chips .

Im going to boot Win XP 64bit , im in 32bit xp just now , i want to see if the SiSoft Benchs are any different , i dont really expect them to be much different .

I keep getting a message from SiSoft2004 saying i should use the 64bit version , but i cant find it ?

I signed up for free BETA testing today so mabye i'll get it through that 😉

Yeah, 65C load is approaching what I'd consider too hot (70C).

The 64-bit version of Sisoft will only install on a 64-bit OS, I believe.

I'm curious how high you'll get it with better cooling. Most people keep their air-cooled A64 at 1.65v or less, depending on the temps you're getting.

Hi ,

I just bought a new Heatsink today

ASUS STAR ICE here < --

Im running at 10 x 240 @ 2400 MHz
Temps are about 30/32 When Idle and 46/48 Maximum load in Prime95 .

I got a good little tube of Geil heatsink paste with my new RAM , and used it on the new CPU
The Geil HS Paste is GREAT .
I bought a new tube of AS5 but i'll keep that for another time

48 under load is solid, try lowering htt to 4 (if its at 5) or 3, and see how much extra that gives you, you could also try lowering memory ratio or raising memory voltage, or raise cpu voltage to 1.6. Also is that 1.55 what you set it to in the bios or what it reads in windows? Lots of boards undervolt so if its reading at 1.5 you could raise it to 1.63 or so and still be fine (could even get to 1.65 actual as long as temperatures are ok but that is pushing it)
