The temperature of my AMD64 4000+ was around 31' C when I first built this PC, its been about a day now and its been on most of the time and the idle temp has went up to 35' C... I'm using a Zalman CNPS-7000Cu, I just wanted to know if this was normal, like when the processor gets broken in does it start running hotter? Should I consider reapplying the thermal paste (I didn't put a huge gob on it like this guy did)? Thanks.

I'm guessing it's just dust, the copper cant transfer the heat to the air when it has to go through dust. What are you using to check your temps?

Using MSI Core Center to check the temps. I don't think I accumulated enough dust to slow it down within 36 hours of building the system.

My idle temp has went up to about 36' C now when I have the fan running at full speed (about 2700 rpm), if I run it off MSI's Core Center "Cool N' Quiet" it takes the fan speed down to about 1300 rpm and it gets up to 38' C. Should I consider getting some AS5? I didn't think this CPU would get this hot with a Zalman cooler.

EDIT: There were some fingerprints on both the CPU and the heatsink that I tried to remove with a paper towel but it seemed to do nothing. Could this be the culprit? If so, should I get the Artic Silver cleaning tools and Artic Silver 5 and go to work?

It's possible that the fingerprints are the culprit. It's about 25 degrees C in the room right now and my Winchester is idling at 31 C at 1125 MHz on 1.2 volts with the retail cooler at about 2500 RPM.

Jesus, it runs at 47' C when playing Battlefield: Vietnam and the game lags... its crazy. You'd think with my computer you could run BF:V with everything up and it not studder at all... what should I do?

Should I get some AS5 and the cleaning products and do that? I've heard that it takes the temp down about 5 degrees... i'm guessing they are talknig about F not C... I just don't know why its running so hot, I mean its not even overclocked and the CNPS-7000 is a pretty damn big heatsink... I was expecting some cool temps here but I guess not.
