AMD64 System - Ram suggestions?

I'm going to upgrade my system to an amd64 system shortly after christmas. i haven't nearly spent enough time studying it yet; that's why i'm starting now. my question is about ram.

I currently have an xp2500+ with micron pc2700 - a hinderance to my overclocking, sans the a7n8x unlocking the multiplyer. The ram i will upgrade first, for obvious reasons... Upon suggesting i was going to buy "Corsair 1024MB TwinX PC3200 Low Latency Dual Channel Kit w/ Platinum Heatspreader," my (nerd) friend said that "ddr400 is so 2003" and then suggested i get at least pc4000. I'm definitely a computer guy, i've grown up on them, i know my stuff, only, i haven't really started up yet on the amd64 technology. but i realize the amd64 really doesn't have a FSB. I'm sure the system i buy will be a socket 939 proc, depending on what's available and inexpensive at the time. i'm also fairly sure i'll look for the 1mb l2 cache. so unless i'm missing something blatantly obvious, the only big question mark for me right now is the memory... any suggestion into this (or links to where i can read more detailed information to come to my own conclusion) would be appreciated. this way i can figure out what the memory will set my budget back.

thanks,

nathan.

No need to get a 1MB cache processor. Get a Winchester (90nm) 3500+ or something like that and you'll be fine.

PC3200 is still the highest JEDEC specification, so that is what you would optimally use for stock speeds. CL2.5 PC3200 is generally good till around 215 MHz. For overclocks higher than that, look into low latency stuff or higher speeds, though since K8 isn't particularly bandwidth starved, a divider wouldn't seem to ruin an overclock.

PDP with XBL is made of the same parts as the OCZ EL. Its 225 or so on Newegg and the guys get mad if it doesn't go over 270 fsb.

Its my next memory and I have spent a lot of time researching. The TCCD chips play well with A64 systems.
