i recently overclocked my AMD64 4000+ from the normal 2.4ghz up to 2.6ghz. its now running slower instead of faster? ive been playing command & conquer zero hour and it seems to be lagging more than usual as to when i had it on 2.4ghz only...this happens in loading up programs.
im currently running:
AMD64 4000+ @2.6ghz
zalman CNPS7700-Cu 120mm cpu fan
gigabyte k8ns ultra 939 motherboard
1gb ddr ram @ 400mhz
gigabyte radeon x800pro 256mb
WD 200gb sata hdd
wd 80gb hdd
coolmaster 480w psu

anyone have any ideas on what the problem is and the best solution for making my system run faster & smoother?????

If your overclock is not stable, it could be causing a large number of errors in the background. The time that the CPU has to take to correct/re-calculate those errors would then result in slower overall performance. Run MEMTEST and PRIME95 on your computer while overclocked. You'll need to let them run for several hours to get valid results. If either one reports errors, particularly if they report a large number of errors, then you will either need to make adjustments to your overclocked settings (raise voltage, lower IDE/PCI/AGP/RAM speeds, try different multiplier and FSB settings, etc.). If you can't get it stable at any overclocked settings, then you may just not be able to overclock that CPU...

Maybe your RAMs Command Rate was set to 1T before you overclocked your system:

Just check your RAMs setting in the BIOS to make sure.
