Hi all, im new here but have been reading a lot of posts, and was wondering what sort of speed i can overclock an AMD64 winchester 3Ghz on a MSI K8N Neo2-54G Platinum Wi-Fi Edition with 1Gb of Crucial DDR
PC-4000 Ballistix Dual Channel Kit (2x512 units) useing an Antec case and Antec Neo 480w PSU Processor is cooled via a Asus Star Ice cooler, case also has 4 Antec 80mm case fans 2 front blowing in and 2 rear blowing out.
PS: im not thinking of getting the above i aready have it all.... reason for no 3500+ is none about at the time of buying!
Any remarks are welcome, system is used maily for playing online game likme call of duty United offencive and Half Life 2 + mods 😀
Cheers guys!

For starters, if you have a 3000+, it isn't @ 3GHz. That is the PR rating which is used to help those who have trouble understanding how a 1.8GHz Athlon 64 is comparable with a 3GHz P4.

I have read of overclocks up to 2.6GHz on the Winchester core, though not sure which model.

Welcome to the forums. 🙂

I've seen people hit over 2.6ghz on air with a 3000+ winchester, but I think the average is more around 2.4 ghz or maybe even less (of course this is often due to motherboard/memory/video/cooling/user incompetence and a million other things that can affect overclocking). Also, there really isn't very much data on this so far (alot of time, only the people who hit really high oc's post them at first). Also, its unlikely that you will be able to hit anything over 2.6 ghz since your fsb will have to be about 290 and, while I have seen people get over 300 on a neo2 plat, I wouldn't count on it.

I think that the MSI undervolts by default so you will probably have to up the voltage to get a decent oc. Don't trust what the voltage is set to the in bios, make sure it is GETTING at least 1.4 volts or more.

I have never heard of that heatsink before but I've read a few reviews that were able to hit decent oc's on stock cooling, so you should be fine.

Cheers for all that guys 🙂 as for me saying 3ghz AMD64 was a bad choice of wording, lol i really ment 3000+ ( honest 😉 ) i will post some results if people are intrested how i come on with this thing! Untill next time.... laterz chaps! and a MERRY XMAS TO ALL!
