I have heard from several users that they are having trouble getting their mobo's to work with the new XP's and more then 512MB of ram.

Has anyone else heard this?

I plan on buying an XP with 768 on the mobo....thanks for your input.

I am having zero problems with 768MB of Crucial PC2100 RAM on a Shuttle AK31 v3.1 with Athlon XP1800+ running WinXPpro.

The 512MB limit pertains to the operating system used, not the processor.

This limit is due to a problem in Win95/98/SE/ME. For more information and how to get around the 512MB limit, please read this.

Depends on which chipset mobo u r using. The AMD chipset need reg RAM if 2 or more stick is used. A single 512 MB or 256 X 2 r no probs.

Personally I plan on running under WIN XP PRO with the KT266A VIA chipset.

One DDR of 512 is very expensive....would be nice to get it to run with 3x 256mbs.

What about using 2400 DDR memory...same thing?

W/ VIA mobo...no probs. On the limitation of the OS for RAM more than 512 MB. Check out link provided by AndyHui to go around tht limitation.

Its for O/Cer tht wan to clock higher than 133 FSB & yet remain at CAS 2. Basically, this type of RAM achieve higher FSB w/ more stability.

Basically all of the post did nothing...sorry, not trying to flame anyone here....BUT

Some say its a WIN 98/ME problem...but the users with the troubles are using WIN XP.

So whos at fault here??

AMD? The mobo makers?

Is there a fix? What about using registered memory?

How can a mobo company offer a board with (3) DDR slots and tell you that you "can put up to 3GB of memory" on board and when you load (3) DDR 256 chips they crash the system? Maybe should tell you that you need to use two chips to reach this total or maybe that it will only work on a UNIX box!!

Who can I sue? DAMIT! This sucks!

Bad design!
