AMD XP vs Intel P4?

Hi,

Some one just gave me an old computer with an AMD Athlon XP 1600+ processor. Now I've always been more of an Intel guy and just so I have a frame of reference, which Intel processor is closest to this one in performance?

Thanks in advance,
Linn

The Athlon XP compared very favourably to the old Willamette P4s, as can be seen here.
It was even on par with the 'B' revision P4s (533Mhz bus, no HT).
Only with the 'C' revision did the Pentium start pulling ahead of the AXP.

And when AMD started playing reindeer games with their clock speeds. I remember the old 2800+ fiasco. The original "Thoroughbred B" based 2800+ ran at 2.25GHz (333MHz FSB), and never made it to retail in any major quantity. The "Barton" 2800+ had a lower clock speed, and in some situations, it was slower than the Thoroughbred 2800+.

The AXP 1600+ is amazing compared to similar rated P4s it will kill any P4 under 1800MHz, putting even in trouble the P4 2000.

Hey that's great, thanks for the info everyone. Looks like I got a pretty nice 'puter out of the deal.🙂

Thanks,
Linn
