tell him to get you a defogger kit from an auto store... lots of people use those instead...

I'm sure Radio Shack can help your uncle find one, if he just asks for the conductive silver pen.

Which defogger kit? The guy at Kragen said that the defogger thing does not conduct electricity. I don't know if he doesn't know what he is talking about, or this is not usefull for unlocking an Athlon.

Please help!

The rear windows of cars sometimes has lines of conductive material on the surface. Electricty is run through it to heat up the window to get rid of the condensation that forms in the winter. Those lines somtimes get broken. They sell a "rear window defogger repair kit" that has a tiny bottle of conductive paint. It it didn't conduct electricity, it couldn't possibly repair the lines.

bgeh, unfortunately I believe that Radio Shack no longer stocks conductive pens. I looked for one last month myself to unlock my Palomino chip and came up empty handed. Your best bet is to have him go to an electronics components supply house for this item. Examples would be Newark Electronics and the like.

This is 100% true. The rear window defogger goop has a lower conductance than say copper or aluminum but it does conduct. The stuff gets hot when it conducts (due to a relatively high resistance for a conductor) like a heating element on a stovetop or an electrical heater.

The defogger repair stuff I got from Advance Auto Parts is silver based, so it conducts very well. Be warned though, the bottle is extremely small, and the small bottle only has a few drops in it (literally)
