AMD XP Mobile Barton VS XP Barton?

hey hey hey =) i was told i'd get mroe replies here =)
in the past i've built a few computers and always had a few problems
because of not taking my time choosing products.. and i had the ECS k7S5A mobo -_-
anyways

AMD XP Mobile Barton VS AMD XP Barton
1. when comparing at the same Frequency who will perform better?
2. multipliers locked on any of these chips?
3. I heard XP Mobile is very nice for clocking... so.. would i be able to clock a mobile 2400+ higher than a regular barton 2500+? (mobile = 78$ for 2400+, barton = 75$ for 2500+)
4. if i choose the mobile, will a "Abit NF7" support mobile? i cant afford the NF7-S =T

thank you thank you thank you

1. Mobile might be slightly worse because of it's 266Mhz FSB.
2. No. 😀
3. Absolutely, the combination of the low FSB and unlocked multipliers make this an excellent OC'ing chip. The 2400+ can usually hit 2.4Ghz and the 2600+ can usually hit 2.5Ghz.
4. As long as you buy the NF7-S v.2 you are set to go. The first revision can't always make 200FSB.

The NF7 is fine too. He probably said NF7-S because it's the default Athlon XP overclocking board mentioned.

if everything is running the same frequency both chips will perform the same because, physically, they are the same.
the mobiles are unlocked, the regulars are locked (unless you can find one from the middle of last year)
i'm running my 2400+ at 2300MHz right now, ~500 MHz overclock.
dunno about the mobo, i'm running an a7n8x from last march, doesn't appear to do 200 mhz... might be the ram though, it's 2700 but runs 22225 all the way to 192 and i can barely get anything out of the rig after that.

Try running it at 2-2-2-11, it'll be a bit faster.

what is this 2-2-2-10 stuff i dont know what that is.. i have no idea how to overclock ram =T
They're the memory timings, or latency settings. Normally lower is better, but nForce2 boards are kinda wierd and like the big number to be bigger. I know it sounds like a crock but it's true.

if i get a mobile 2400
a TT silent boost
corsair 512mb pc2700
with a REGULAR abit nf7 mobo
how far would i be able to clock?
and does nf7 have a multiplier changing option?

1) Nobody knows, but you should be able to get 2.3-2.4GHz
2)Yes, the NF7 can set any multiplier available to an Athlon XP.

1. at the same frequency they will perform the same
2. all mobile bartons by default come with unlocked multipliers. the new desktop bartons are all locked.
3. a mobile barton will easily overclock higher than a desktop barton because they are unlocked and have a lower default voltage thus will run cooler at higher speeds. an overclocked mobile barton can thus outperform a desktop barton.
4. any socket A motherboard can support a mobile barton.
