AMD XP 2600+ question

Ok guys. I have got myself into a little problem here. I have a processor that is being a pain in my butt. It's a Thor 2600+ @ 2.07Ghz. It seems the chip picks and chooses what boards it likes to work in. I have a Shuttle AN35N-400that I have got it to boot with once out of about 100 tries. I also have the Aopen AK79D-400VN that the chip will boot with everytime. I sold the chip on Ebay because I needed the chip to work on the Aopen. The guy caught my bluff. The guy claims to be FAE certified and appears to know what he is doing. He has tested the board on pretty much every chipset imaginable with every memory configuration. He can't get anything and gets a code 88 from his debugger card (dead processor). This might be a bad chip, anyone know what might be causing this or heard of this problem before?

Thanks

Relax guy, I could not explain why the chip did not boot using the Shuttle, it did boot once so there was no explaination and since it works flawlessly with the Aopen I figure it was just something with the Shuttle board and since I needed the chip to work on the Shuttle it was Ebay material.
