Gonna go the AMD route with an ASUS A7N8X-X board. Just tweaking some $$$ numbers and I noticed that the price difference (i.e. New Egg) between the 2500 and the 2800 is about $50.00 ($46.00). My question is how much faster is the 2800 compared to the 2500 all things being equal?? (i.e. board, memory running at correct bus speed given the nForce2 chipset, etc..)

I'm sort of on a budget, but I'm looking for the better bang-for-the-buck, not necessarily the best bang-for-the-buck. Also, I don't plan on doing any OC. Just want quality and stability.

Thanks for the input! You guys (and gals) rock!

The best bang for the buck is a 2500+ barton. And if you do decide later to overclock you will have a good chip to do so.
