are u sure those temps are right? Get some better cooling and then go for it if they are.

1) ECS K7S5A's aren't much of an overclocker

2) That's a bit high compared to what I was seeing on my K7S5A (low-to-mid 50's). You might want to double-check that your heatsink is on in the right direction and that you've got your thermal compound applied well (thin layer).

the temp is probably just reading high.... unless you got alot of voltage going through that CPU
which I doubt the ECS can do..
you can't O/C much on that board. try whatever FSB settings are in there.. what like 3?

Is it on in the correct orientation? Check this if you're not sure what to look for: heatsink orientation guide in PDF format (download Adobe Acrobat Reader from www.adobe.com if you need it). Figures 7, 13 and 14 are helpful in showing what to look for.

Be aware that the thermal pad on an AMD heatsink is a melt-to-fit, one-use pad. If you removed the heatsink at this point, you would need to scrape off all the thermal pad and replace it with high-quality thermal compound such as Arctic Alumina or Arctic Silver 3 (or another thermal pad like the original, except they're impossible to find :p). HTH :)

You are correct sir! Hi 40s maybe, but in the 60s.........YIKES!!

I am running the XP 2000+ right now and I am sitting at 41c with a case temp of 26c.

Yeah, that's a bit high Hammyton. The highest it should go is mid 50's. Mind you, Athlons will fail at 90C but running it >60C will shorten the lifespan considerably I believe.

Well, but boards are apples and oranges. If he had an Abit N7V-M then he would be seeing around 70C. The same CPU/heatsink combo would read 42C on my A7N266-VM. Calibration is woefully un-standardized among motherboards. Of course, if you do have a K7S5A and your temps are in the 40's, that's pretty righteous cooling  but on mine, low 60's wouldn't have been out of the question with that CPU/cooling combo.

Hammyton, you might check your case temperature. Run the system with the side open and see if your temps go down much. You probably should have at least a rear exhaust fan.
