Hey, I'm building a system with these components and I'm very concerned about whether the heatsink is installed properly. I am following the installation guide which came with the HS, but the directions are somewhat ambiguous. "STEP 4. Install Heat Sink...Begin to tighten the screws in an alternating crisscross pattern. Once the screws bottom, stop. The springs are now applying the specified load. Overtightening the screws will accomplish nothing...Due to the tolerances of the chip, socket, motherboard and mounting hardware, the amount of force exerted by the springs may be too weak in some cases. This can affect the performance of the heat sink. If you feel that the amount of spring force is too light and affecting the performance, add one additional spring washer per screw, between the screw head and spring."

Sorry for such a long quote, but I wanted to make it as complete as possible for those of you who don't have this heatsink.

I have carefully followed the instructions, and looked at the end-result, and I cannot determine with any certainty whether my HSF is mounted properly or not. How the heck am I supposed to know whether I feel the amount of spring force is too light???

I tried to look between the processor and the Heatsink, and I really can't tell for sure if the processor is actually making contact with the heatsink. The illustrations on the instruction sheet for the Alpha show the four "pads" on the processor in place.

After seeing the video on THG of an XP burning up in just a few seconds, I am really nervous about firing up my new box.

As always, any help will be greatly appreciated! :)

Fire it up already, I installed mine and it works great. Don't worry, I'll buy you a new one if you cook it, just kidding :)

I just installed one on my system. I was concerned about the install also. So I did put in another washer next to each of the screw heads. I use a sunon low rpm/whisper fan. Temps average 41c-43c.
