AMD x4 630 stock hsf - inadequate?

I have the following...
AMD x4 630
MSI 890FXA-GD70 (got it for $120 during a price error).
4x2GB of DDR3 ram

Is it just me or is the stock hsf that comes with AMD x4 630 totally inadequate? My temperatures can get pretty high (60+ C) on default settings and running prime...

Stock vcore is 1.4v

yeah it looks weak, assuming its the same as the one ive got with 635's.

The heatpipe Phemon II coolers arnt bad but the athlon coolers suck.

I almost never use the stock HSF. Throw on something like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus if you're looking for a great cooler on a budget.

1.4v sounds rediculously high though. I used to have a 130nm K8 that ran at 1.5v, and my 65nm Phenom uses 1.2v, I suspect that for some reason your motherboard is defaulting the voltage to be way too high.

I lowered the vcore to 1.2v.

The AMD Athlon II x4 630 C2 seems like a weak overclocker though, requiring lots of additional vcore to do anything significant.

I guess it depends on your definition of "weak".... folks get 3.5+ ghz out of it with sub 1.5v. Of course, YMMV.

My g/f's 620 (2.6 ghz) is currently doing 3.2ghz @ stock, and I haven't tested higher.

AMD's - and Intel's - HSFs are totally adequate for stock speeds, which is the purpose of a stock cooler.
