How much of a gain in performance would i get in switching to an Amd x2 3800 as far as video encoding, photoshop, dvd decrypting and dvd shrink? I can find benchmarks with those 2 cpu together

Photoshop is a multi threaded app, so theoretically you would see a two fold improvement with the use of that application although I don?t think that would actually be the case .. im not sure but i think DVD decrypter might be aswell.. at the moment there are very few native multi threaded apps available so the use of dual cores are not yet in their prime ..
i think in single threaded apps the performance would be similiar .. as the 3800 X2 runs each core at 2Ghz, and that is equivalent to two 3000+ cores .. where a 3000+ is comparable with a Intel 3.0Ghz proc and you already have a 3.2Ghz proc .. and also you benefit from using a Northwood instead of a Prescott
Does your Northwood proc have HT enabled?

the 2ghz is the 3200, not 3000
single threaded perfromance should be the same or better.
