AMD X2 drivers?

I just built myself a new system using a X2 3800+...is it neecessary to install the AMD X2 drivers and the Microsoft Windows XP Hotfix for X2 Dual Cores?...if so where can I find the X2 drivers and this Microsoft hotfix?

on AMD's website I see they have this listed...is this the X2 driver?

AMD Athlon? 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (exe) 1.2.2.2 -

Allows the system to automatically adjust the CPU speed, voltage and power combination that match the instantaneous user performance need. Download this Setup Installation program (EXE) to automatically update all the files necessary for installation. This package is recommended for users whom desire a graphical user interface for installation. This .EXE driver is a user friendly localized software installation of the driver designed for end-users. This driver supports AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processors on Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2003 SP1.

you should install both patches as it would help a lot.

yes, that's the correct amd driver, get the windows patch by doing a search on the forums.

thanks for the reply...do you install this driver immediately after installing Windows?

I think I found the XP hotfix online but it not only is a patch but it requires some registry modifications as well..is this true or did i not find the correct patch?

install xp, install sp2, install chipset drivers, install amd driver, install hotfix, apply reg, installl video driver, and your done.

I thought it had been established long ago by reading the MS KB info on that hotfix that the registry setting is only if you want to disable the hotfix by adding that entry and setting it to 0. Otherwise the hotfix works normally without it. The registry entry could then be further used to re-enable the hotfix by setting it to 1.

I'm going to upgrade to X2 3800+ from a 3200+, so instead of wasting thread space I might as well ask it here.

I would prefer not to reinstal windows.
Also is it necesary to install the MS hot fix?
I'm planing on overclocking and will not be using cool and quite.

Thanks for the link.

What i was wondering about the MS hotfix, is it required to be instaled or is it only required if u plan on usind Cool and quite?

Cause before i had my a64, i was using a p4 with HT, as far as i understand windows does not know that the second core is logical or real, so i had no problems running everything then. So what i was thinking is why would there be a problem running a dual core A62 cause as far as the OS sees its exactly like a p4 with HT (except AMD and ofcourse performs like 2 cores😛).

So am i correct in saying that the mshotfix is only required if u use C&Q?

EDIT: Reason i'm asking is cause my current instal is new, and i do not want to go through the trouble of reinstaling, since i heard a few people had to completely reinstal windows after instaling the hotfix stuffed it up.

I just installed that hotfix after reading this forum and learning about it, i did a google search on it and found that AMDforum link, i have had no problems so far. I haven't had time to benchmark it yet but my system is running stable.

So the article tells you how to install the hotfix then as step #7 tells you how to DISABLE it, then as an addendum "oh btw, if you actually want the hotfix set it to 1".

I'm confused!

Most of the people I know do NOT use the AMD CPU driver unless they plan to use CnQ. The exception being if Windows does not detect 2 CPUs, in which case the driver can be installed, computer rebooted, and then the driver removed. Some people also claim that their machines are faster without the driver. Since I'm not running it, I can't verify that claim.
