Do you guys think it'd be ok if i overclock the 2.1GHz to 2.5GHz just through the mobo (Asus m2n4-sli), without using any special heatsinks or fans or anything? Or how about the Brisbane 1.9GHz overclocked to 2.1GHz or 2.2GHz, again without anything special?

I'm not planning on upgrading this anytime soon after i buy it, so i don't want to overclock it and then have it explode or overheat. Would it just be worth it to spend 30 bucks more and just buy the 2.1GHz instead of the 1.9GHz and then not OC it to be safe? Thanks.

shouldn't be an issue; the x2 3600's usually overclock to the high 2ghz range and often break 3ghz with no really special cooling, so those low overclocks should be totally fine.

so you think if i get the Brisbane 3600 1.9GHz, i can overclock it to 2.5GHz with just the stock cpu fan and it won't ever overheat or damage in any other way?

is the performance of a 1.9GHz cpu OCed to 2.5 exactly the same as that of a retail 2.5GHz chip?

Yes, you should be able to do 2.5 easily on the stock heatsink.

No, it will actually be slightly faster than a 2.5 Ghz stock chip, because your RAM will be running faster, assuming your RAM can handle it.

I'm thinking of getting the XMS2 corsair DDR2 1GB dual channel kit. But i didn't see any spec that said what voltage the ram runs on, and what voltage the board accepts. You know if the M2N4 will work with the XMS2?

dude get a 2GB ddr2 kit, they can easily be had for less than $100 right now. You could easily get a DDR2 667 kit and be fine, but you could also get a ddr2 800 kit since they're also super super cheap.

Good call. I'll get the OCZ Gold Series 2GB DDR2 667 for like 10 bucks more (almost same price of the rebate comes through). And reading the reviews on the egg it sounds like it can handle OCing really well. Thanks!
