Edit: I was searching for heatsink information and seems that there might be two different heatsinks that ship with these. The first is a nice copper heatpipe version. The second is an old looking block of aluminum with fins and a fan (no heatpipes). Disapointing that they are not all copper heatpipes. YMMV and good luck!

Nice comparison review: Click me!

I was looking at...

Foxconn
Gigabyte
Biostar
Last two have built in video. Look for combo deals too. I was going to use a Phenom II X3 710 though.

really tempting.. but everyone keeps saying the power consumption and heat are really bad.......

should i hold out and wait for a phenom II x2????

hmmm I'll think about it. does the 2MB L3 cache make that much of a difference? I'm running an x2 4400 and hvaen't been keeping up lately so I don't know how much things matter, if at all

Great deal. I bought is for $10 more a few weeks ago. Very fast and you can get 30% overclock by raising the bus speed. It is however a power hog but it does run pretty cool considering the 30 additional watts it is eating over the 45w TDP X2 I am replacing. Any old 780G motherboard will do. I have two. A Biostar and an Asrock and they are both good mATX boards (however the Asrock is pretty damn big for a micro form factor).

Power and heat aren't that bad. Look at xbits review...only uses 25 more WT at full load. Not a *huuuuge* deal. The chips run rather cool as well....I'm using the stock AMD heatpipe cooler that comes with 6000/6400 (and older opterons) and I only load at around 46C. This is with the +10C b/c of the load temps bug as well ....all on a true Orthos load.

I have a biostar TF560 AM2 board & be-2400 oc @ 3000mhz. Is it worth an upgrade? Anyone know if my tf560 can handle the power of overclocking the Kuma?

i heard some people suggesting that a mosfet heat sink is required for AM2 board using AM2+ CPU. What the hack is that?

probably not worth the upgrade...

and the mosfets are the power ic's that sit by the capacitors that will be near the cpu... touch any chips that are about the size of a fingernail around your cpu while it's running and if you get burnt you need a hs...

I have an E4300 overclocked to 3.3 ghz. how would this thing compare to it? Surely there's a site somewhere that has different benchmarking results, right?
I'm on the cusp of buying it but want to know first..

I replaced a be2400 in this machine. This CPU is approximately 25% faster (according to 3dMark CPU test) and eats up 30 more watts at idle. I needed another CPU so I did not really upgrade for the sake of upgrading. I would not have done it just for the hellava it.

OMG, this is exactly the comparison I was looking for!!!
Thanks!

probably getting the 5050e instead, since I have a low end AM2 mobo anyway.

At stock settings, no. Especially not in games where the E5200's 2MB of cache hurt it.

If you are going to be overclocking then the E5200 is the better choice. At stock the X2 7750 is around the same speed.

Not a bad deal, but if you are dead-set on AMD I would recommend either (A) spending a little more and get a X3 PHII CPU or (B) spending around the same and get a AM2 X2 CPU. I have purchased a few of these 2 and 3 core Phenom CPUs and they are fairly power-hungry and range from downright poor OCers to OK. The PhII derivitives are much better, but are a little more $$$.

Picked 1 up a couple weeks ago. Running @ 3.2 w/xigmatek hdt cooler I had on hand. Mine's running on a Asus M3N78 open-box I got from the egg for $54. Hard to beat for the price for a dual-core cpu. Guru3d did a nice review comaring to the E8200 below.
