Note that not all boards like to handle 125W chips, but if yours does... these (Windsor chips) are the highest performing dual cores that AMD put out.

Awesome price on that cpu. I was almost ready to pull the trigger on it, but the 125Watt's killed it for me. i went with the 5600+ 2.9GHz 65Watt. It gets kinda warm in my room here and i don't need anymore heat pumping out of this box.

Probably. Now, some higher end cards use a 6 pin and 8 pin PCI-E plugs, while your PSU only has two 6 pin. Keep that in mind. While you can use adaptors, it's like sex - better if you don't have to fake it. :shocked:

This is the best bang for the buck cpu right now.

This is about equal to a E6600 core 2 duo which costs more if you can find it, and a little less than the E7200 in performance, but the E7200 runs about $130.00 or more.

the closest your going to get to this is a E2220 for $89.99 at newegg which you would need to overclock to equal this at stock, but the E2220 overclocked to 3.5ghz compared to the 6000+ overclocked to 3.4ghz the e2220 will outperform.

This is great for a stock system, you can't beat it at this price at stock speeds for the same money from intel.

I second that question. Cubeless, since you posted this, what do you think is the better deal? Is this one worth the money compared to the black edition x2 5000? But doesn't the 5000 have a newer technology with 65watt blah blah blah?

i would say that the be is 'better' if u can use it...

my cheapo ecs mobo has neither cpu voltage nor multiplier options, so this is the better deal for me since i can possibly get to 3.2is with just a fsb push... but by having the cheepo board i am going to be using a lot more power, generating more heat, etc... mmmmm... i feel so american... since i can sell the 4800 that's in the board for $50 to one of the kids' friends, this is a reasonable pop up to top out this system... it'll let the 8800 in it stretch its shaders and should be nicely matched... and it's easier than selling the whole mess and building a new disk...

and the 6000 has a bigger cache...

but if my mobo was flexible i'd go the with the be... and start eating salads and driving a hybrid and composting and...

yea, there seems to be issues but maybe with additional cooling pointed at/on the chipset ???

I was looking at the 5400+ (2.8GHz 65W TDP) cause it doesn't use the xx.5 multiplier

Great deal on a powerful CPU but 125W is crazy... the 5400+ I just bought for $80 is only 200MHz slower and is 65W.

I'd just go with the 5000+ BE.

up and running with a k8m890m-m @ 3.2...

it's a toaster, though!!! first time i've touched a heatpipe that was waaay hot... at stock volts @ 3.2 it's pushing 60c doing orthos... make sure u disable fan control in bios... fan needs to run full tilt (3300rpm) all the time...

box uses 311w running orthos with a 8800gts640... may have to swap in a different psu than the sp450 that's in the box... and the box went from 8500 3d06's to 10500... a very worthwile upgrade...
