AMD X2 4400+ Cooling

Is the AMD X2 4400+ stock heatsink and fan sufficient, or would a CoolMaster liquid system be more appropriate?

If you're running at stock speeds, the stock cooler is fine. I'm using a Zalman cooler (air) and have a hard time going over 40c at load. it usually hovers around 38c.

The stock coolers for the new x2s are sweet, in fact better than most aftermarket.

I know some of the Zalmans are sweet ( but HUGE! ) and I think would offer a slight improvement in cooling/temp.

I am not sure if something like that would even be needed unless HEAVY overclocking.

The stock heatsink is sweet. I use a Zalman 7700Cu instead and that is pretty sweet as well.

The stock heatsink is more than enough even for some good overclocking excursions.

I'm running my 3800 X2 at 2400mhz right now and my load temp is at 54 C. That is using the stock aluminum HSF that comes with the 3800..... I ordered the stock Heatpipe AMD HSF off ebay for $22 and hope it will drop my temps.

The stock HSF will do fine, it would be overkill to have a watercooling system if you are running stock clockspeeds.

Interesting side note:

When I bought my X2 4400 from monarch (when it first came out), I was a tad naive and no one really knew how good the stock cooler was...so I paid them 40 bucks for a POS cooler that was actually WORSE than the stock cooler... their website recommended replacing the stock cooler with that one...

Anyway, for stock speed the regular cooler will be fine
