AMD X2 3800+ Overclocking Help

Well I'm a bit new to overclocking, read the entire thread of Zebo's guide, http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=28&threadid=1497607&enterthread=y and all the replies to try and find more info.

I followed the steps, and got a max HTT/FSB of 305 (safe booting up to windows) with the memoryclock at 200 (bios minimum) and the remaining setting at default with a multiplier of x6.

Step 2 I managed to get a cpu high of 2650 stable in 2 instances of prime at 1.5 voltage sitting around 48-52c full load. At 2700 I started getting errors. Memoryclock again at 200, and defaults.

Step 3 is where it gets a bit wierd. I kept the memoryclock at 200 (minimum) and set the cpu multiplier at x6 and set my memory timings for LL with 2-2-2-7 (2gb (2x1) dual ddr-400 corsair xms pc-3200), not sure if that was the best way to go, but I'm a bit of a noob at doing memory clocks and such and not sure which would be the best way for me (intensive gaming/dvd playing/photoshop useage). I set the voltage at 2.9v for the memory. I managed to get up to 305 HTT/FSB running memorytest step 5 and 6 with no errors, I didn't go past that since it seemed a bit pointless when my HTT/FSB seems to end there when booting to windows.

Now I tried to compile all these figures into the Optimizer, I got suggested settings of :

9 x 296 - DDR400 - x3 HT
9 x 296 - DDR333 - x3 HT

Now I tried to run my memoryclock at 400 and my computer basically said No. It wouldn't post or goto CMOS, I had to manually remove the mobo battery to get defaults back so I could get back to BIOS. Not sure what I'm doing wrong here tbh. It seems the computer won't even boot up with the memoryclock set at 400. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is my only option running memoryclock 200 to get my cpu clock up to 2650? Seems that's quite detrimental to memory speeds. Excuse me if these are dumb questions. Rig info below:

i don't know your board but when you set it to ddr400 is that trying to run it 1:1 ?? that would obviously be a problem, especially at cl2.

reading your memtest results it would appear that when you set it to ddr400 it runs 1:1 and when you set it at the "minimum" ddr200 you're running 1:2. so by hitting 305 in memtest, you actually were running 152.5.

loosen the ram up a bit to 2.5-3-3-7, set it to ddr400 for memtest and see where it will go.

If the Corsairs are the C2PT variety, you will not be able to run at 2.0 (the first number of the set reading left to right) and should be set at 2.5. I run my XMS at 2.5-3-3-7 as suggested by Rise4310.

and Yes, I guess I"m trying to run the RAM at 1:1, is it not plausible to keep my core high and still a high ddr for the RAM? Was I pushing to much wit hthe ddr400 AND 2-2-2-7 timings?

Sincity - Does the corsair render inoperable at 2 (cas latency) or something? That would seem quite odd.

Okay, the RAM isn't stable at all at 400 memoryclock with minimum 200 FSB/HTT. Cant't make it all the way through memorytest without any errors or boot to windows with 3-3-3-7 timings.

Meh Any other ideas?

I've basically started all over again with my new knowledge.

Max Speed is 2.6 (I had it at 2.65 before with 5 min, 2 primes running no errors, but running at a longer duration I started getting errors at around 45 min) so I ran it at 2.6 for 8 hours with 2 primes running on each core with no errors and temps around 50 with stock cooling.

It's the memory that keeps ****** me. It seems I can't pass any memorytests @ 1:1 at minimum (200) fsb. Maybee it's the timings? Seems a little rediculous that I wouldn't even be able to run 1:1 at min fsb with good ram (Corsair XMS DDR-400 PC-3200)

Actually, I have this ram (1GB x 2) and ran it memtest stable at 1t 2-2-2-5 on my Chaintech VNF4. Just FYI.

@ what divider and htt/fsb ?
