AMD x2 3800 OC

Hi all, i just want to overclock my x2 3800. I've nforce4 sli mainboard and 600W silvertake powersupply with 2(1+1) gigs of kingstone.
I'm very noob at this OC thing and i dont want to burn my cpu

Can please someone tell me what to increase and decrease
like raising fsb..lower multiplier etc...thanx a lot

Raise FSB, leave the multiplier alone. Watch the ram speed to FSB ratio and up voltage on Vcore slightly as well as Vdimm.

Watch temperatures before you go higher. You probably will not want to see anything higher than 50c in BIOS for CPU temp.

Overclocking a X2 is easy as pie, just watch your temperatures and don't make drastic changes if you do not know what you are doing.

NOTE: Be sure you know in advance where your reset CMOS jumper is. Every board is different and some recover from bad overclocks easier than others. So, just know how to reset the BIOS back to default in case it will not boot due to aggressive settings.

Second, I have mine at 2.8Ghz stable (282x10) at 1.65V; however, I use the higher voltage because I have aftermarket cooling -- not the stock heatsink.

Be also aware that nForce4 chipsets usually cannot take an HT link frequency over 1050Mhz, so adjust the HT multiplier as needed while overclocking.

okniv....... I would suggest using the search button before you ask such a wide ranging question. Not to mention just googling the subject at hand. Come on here if there is something you can't figure out, but asking "what is a CPU?" is just an act of laziness.

As for that old worry "i dont want to burn my cpu" - they have thermal protection = automatic shutdown before any heat damage occurs.

Do you mean the OP or the flame?
For the OP, knowing where to find the info can be a somewhat daunting task when you're new to forums...
As to "automatic shutdown", I have seen that fail (though not too often)...in fact it did cost me a chip once so it's not a completely unwarranted worry...

My X2-3800 runs 10 X 26 at default voltage. I have an aftermarket cooler and my load temps approach 60C. That is about as high as I would want them to be. I do have cool n quiet activated and it hasn't caused any problems but it does allow the chip to run nice and cool when I don't need full power. It also allows the fans to throttle back and gives me a much quieter box except under full load. Please try to ignore those who prowl the forums looking for someone to flame. It may be the only pleasure they get out of life.

It's tough for me to edit it when you're all quoting me. I will definitely NOT apologize for anything stated, but I have edited my original post. I get sick of people NOT putting the time necessary to understand the forum and topic at hand.
