Make sure he has stress tested it, and find out if he was over-clocking. And unless you really trust your "friend's friend" you should stress test it ASAP.

$300 isn't too cheap but he may be selling it becuse it's like my Toledo 3800+ and has a crappy 2nd core that is great stock; but can't O/C for CRAP. So if you plan on O/C it make sure you keep this in mind.

Other then that you got a sweet deal!

Watch out, that's a Manchester core, I believe. The "CD" at the end of the stepping is a sign for Manchester.

No, that's Toledo.

BTW, the actual Manchesters seem to OC just as high anyway.

Seriously, has anyone actually seen a manchester? I know cache-disabled Toledos overclock pretty well but I havent seen many manchesters out there, so I cant really say which one of the two would overclock better.

toledos are the ones with 1mbx2 cache, manchesters are the ones with 512x2. :p Since I dont have both to compare, ive only heard the manchesters with lower cache oc better.

I can't get it to boot any higher then 2.7 ghz..

I think it might be my ram that is holding me back.. (I'm using Kingston PC3200)

I am already running on a divider so...

anyway.. 2.7 ghz dualcore for $300 shipped is too hot :D i'm really happy.

My ram or mobo does not like anything more then 270 FSB.. even at a 1:2 ratio, slow timings, and the multiplier lowered, it would not boot at anything higher then 270 FSB

JUst make sure you check the temps and have enough cooling. Rise can confirm this, they get hot...

Anyway, It boots up fine up no problem up to 2.7 GHz at 1.4v. However, anything in the 2.5 GHz - 2.7 GHz fails Prime95. I tested each core individually and they both fail. (I raised the voltage to 1.45-1.5 but it still fails.)

I have lowered my ratio to 1:2 and slower timings but no luck (This was all on 1T, I didn't try 2T yet)

ASUS A8N SLi Deluxe
Zalman CNPS 7000a
Fortron 450W Power Supply
eVGA 7800GT
Currently using 512x2 Kingston PC3200 Valueram (I think this might be the problem, I don't have a floppy disk or CD-R ATM to run memtest =T)
HTT 3x

Oh well, I am getting some different ram to test in a few days. 512x2 Corsair TwinX XMS PC4400C25PT.
