I've built two Intel systems, now I will try AMD.

Good used hard ware I have

Lite-On Burner
Lite-On reader
FSP 400-60PFN
Case modded for good filtered air flow
Samsung floopy,she needs it
Nexus fan contoller
WD1600 hd
Kingston KHX3200AK2/512(I'd like to use but not necessary)

I have spent the last two hours searching for deals on MSI and TYAN Trinity.

Stability is number one if the board can be given a little OC thats OK too.
On board audio is a plus.
On board graphics would be OK but I will most likely install a passively cooled graphics card.
At this point PCIe or AGP as the card has not been bought yet. She will not get a Matrox from me :)
$250 is tops, in fact a Zalman 700 included would be nice.

I'm only seeking direction, I can do my homework. Never having followed AMD that much I'm in the dark. I'm not looking to get a killer deal on a 64bit processor.
I just want her to have a fast stable workstation..

The OS will be XP Office.

Thanks for any imput,

I just built an athlon 64 2800 (socket 754) that works great, and it came with onboard video, sound, lan, and raid. It was a Fry's combo special ($141 with tax). Outpost.com might have a similar deal with an ecs 755 board. These boards won't overclock, but I doubt you'll even need it. I also use a Celestica 9600se video card in my other system, and it works great. It runs about $65 (newegg.com), and has no fan on the heatsink.

Thanks for the heads up. I can drive to Fry's.

I will check out the ecs755. I've been shopping ASUS and MSI after finding what I thought was a mother-load of sensably priced TYANs at Aztec(only one A) to find referbs w/30 day garentee.

gy

edit: I google a review, ecs755 A2 and see Anandtech come up third link:eek:
It gets a VG review.

That combo at the outpost is now $169.

The board I have is actually an ecs with via km800 chipset. I mentioned the sis 755 as outpost.com sometimes has it with a combo deal. But if you live near Fry's, watch the ads carefully until you find something you like.
