im looking at either a 2600+ or a p4 2.66B.
pls do not compare the price. for these 2, the price doesnt matter. i heard that i can get an average of 3.1 ghz outta that p4. and an average of 2.4 ghz outta that amd. which will eprform better? (pls give me the mobo's i should use, also :D )

Thanx

Yet another "vs" thread. What do you want to do? Are you a gamer? I prefer and will always prefer Pentium no matter the cost. So, just go with your gut feeling......and lets keep this thread to a minimum.......;)

What 2600+??? The 333fsb???

even if you get 3.1ghz p4 and 2.4ghz out of the athlon I think they both would still be about the same...that being said I think the platform may be the decider...

At this time (based on slow and overpriced granite bay mobos) I would think an nforce2 and the amd is likely the better solution. I think GB is the only ddr solution that really does the p4 justice and it just isn't a viable cost option yet...

I know AMD ppl are taking a step back!!!

I am disappointed in Intel right now because of it....

I would get the Athlon... I went from an XP1800+ to an overclocked P4 1.8A

my next computer is for sure AMD again... the performance of the P4 is nothing earth shattering that's for sure. oh, and they're too expensive.. :)

I'd actually go with a 2400+ and an nForce2 motherboard as far as gaming goes. You'll probably have less troubles hitting higher FSB speeds with a 2400+ and save a lot of cash. The resulting clock speed won't matter as much as a high FSB. 2.4GHz on a 200+MHz FSB would kick the noodles out of a 2.4Ghz 166MHz FSB as far as gaming goes. Definately go with the 2400+ and some really fast ram instead of a 2600+.

Lets face it, if cost wasnt the issue, everyone would go out and buy a super computer.

Since money does factor into products we choose to buy, go with AMD and save some hard earned cash.
