AMD Athlon 64 3500+ with HyperTransport Technology
vs
Intel Pentium D Processor 930 w/ Dual Core Technology 3.0GHz 800MHz FSB

also i dont know alot about AMD and just want to know what is different about it from intel?

the 930 is a great value around $130 and should oc well. The athlon 64 is $102 and will oc well as well. The a64 should offer better gaming performance while the 930 will offer better multithreaded app performance. Let's review: if you're gaming get the the 3500+ (maybe am2) but otherwise you'll do fine with the 930. It may seems like intel should be better with their netburst architechture offering higher clock speeds than amd, but amd has much higher htt (fsb) and will do the same amount of work per clock cycle at lower speeds.

If you use the search feature here, you will find many posts on this.

The difference is the AMD is a single core and the Pentium is dual core.

This also should be in the CPU section.

good answer

Yep, both good cpu's for the money. One is faster, but the other is dual core.

Oh, and I think the 930 is running ~$170, not 130. If it were 130, this would be a no-brainer.

I would also go with dualcore unless gaming then obviously go with the AMD

Meh, even if gaming I'd go with the 930, especially if he plans on keeping for a while. We'll see games coming out that will make use of the second core, like Crysis.
