My friend and I were having a discussion of which CPU heats up the most, So which is it? AMD or Intel? considering all their processors from the past comparing them with eachother.

I'm saying Intel creates the highest temperatures, specially prescott.

AMDs are the hottest processors ever produced. You can run a P4 just on the heat an athlon64 produces.

OMG! You are such a fanboi!!!!1 Everyone knows the original Athlon Thunderbird ran so cool you could run it with passive cooling!!

I hope you're either kidding or attempting your best Felix impression. :)

rather a strange thread :p

But, assuming u mean at stock ('cos my o'cd 400mhz celeron @ 500mhz hsf got so hot you burnt your fingers with just an inquiring poke :) ) i guess the prescotts pump out the most heat, though if u r that interested google it- i am sure both AMD and Intel (115w max i think) give their TDP's for all their CPU's on their respective websites...

EDIT: My minor (very) personal milestone, 100 posts :)

The Prescott is definitely the hottest cpu's right now. Hands down. AMD used to have the hottest cpu when the Thunderbird at 1400 was floating around but now the dishonor of cpu that doubles as a toaster belongs to Intel

Also remember Intel only gives average TDP's for their cpus whereas AMD gives max TDP so don't be fooled

Yes, currently AMD is killing Intel in having the lowest heat/power consumption.

Prescott about 60W over 130nm A64 and 80W over 90nm A64.

So let's estimate 60W for Winchester and 140W for Prescott.
Prescott die is ~35% larger than Winchester.

So that means Prescott produces about 60% more W per mm^2.
