hello - big intel fan here (see my rigs...)

well anyway please explain why amd is technically...no make it highly technical, better than intel

i am open to all opinions and dont want to start a flame war - i just want to understand this!

I'm afraid I WILL lock this thread. There are plenty of articles on the AnandTech front page/main website that explains in detail the differences between the current architectures. Read up on them, and then come back with an intelligent question.

No offence, but this is either going to get locked, or moved. Many ( ok, probably all ) the peeps here in HT dislike these kinds of threads, beacuse they made us lose Wingnut Pez, and almost lose PM.

With that aside, I prefer AMD, but I will give my reasons. Not because Intel is suck or some crap like that, but because AMD currently holds the price vs. crunching power point, and that is what is most important to me, best bang for my buck. Intel is a little overpriced for me at the moment, but there is no arguing they have a better product, and lower failure rate. Intel CPU's are made to perform, and excell where an AMD would melt, and become an expensive keychain ( of which I have 4 from overclocking experements and chipped cores ) If I rememebr correctly, Intel P4's are made to operate with case temps of 70c+, and that's just the case, not the CPU. For all mission critical data, I would buy nothing but an Intel CPU. For my home needs, and my own servers a AMD will suffice.

I vote for locking it if the original poster can't define "technically" a little more specifically. My feeling on this forum is that it deals in fact - and this is too broad a subject to have an accurate, factual answer.

For the record, I left primarily because I had two users emailing me anonymously and saying not particularly friendly things, and I didn't think that I was learning much or contributing much to the forum. I returned when Anand decided to create the HT forum. Wingz left (if I may speak for him) because he was tired of the "Intel is evil" lines in various GH posts and is proud of the company that he works for. He posted a thread about the philantropic activities at Intel in GH and it was not particularly well received. I don't think either of us particularly mind "AMD vs. Intel" threads. If people prefer AMD, all power to them. But I personally get irritated by insults towards myself specifically or towards the people that I work with. Like Wingz, the "Intel is evil" stuff got on my nerves too, but "I like AMD processors over Intel" doesn't particularly bother me.
