You can pick up socket 775 mini-ITX boards for $30-40 off Newegg and AM2 boards start @ $100? This just doesn't make any sense to me. With the onboard memory controller shouldn't these be cheaper to make?

AMD developed the DTX form factor a couple years ago but there is only one MB combo I can find that uses it. Is there some form factor I'm missing for socket AM2 processors?

Looking for something to fit in a NES PC.

The cheapest boards for both sockets are Zotac brand. Note their chipsets. The 8200 for AMD is a higher end chipset which is more comparable to the 9300 for Intel, which costs $45 more. The cheap Intel ITX boards use the GF7050 which is a low end chipset. Nobody makes a low end chipset ITX board for AMD (or at least they aren't available to buy).

If you want it cheap, just go for the $40 board coupled with some cheap Intel CPU like the E5200. That CPU comes with a very low profile heatsink, which would help shoehorn it into an NES.
