amd vs intel.... ambient heat issues?

hello there.... i'm looking at upgrading my comp, and had a couple questions for those who know more of these things than i do 😉. for one thing, i don't want to spend much more than $300-400 on mobo/cpu/memory, and i've been looking at getting an Athlon XP 1500+, for cost concerns, and unlocking it.

i live in a place where ambient temperatures get into the 90s in the summer (no a/c, D: ), and i was wondering if anyone has seen/heard of heat issues with an AMD in this type of environment? i'd be getting some good fans, but i can't really invest in water cooling or any of that.

with that in mind, i'd also like some recommendations on a nice mobo and memory... if the Athlon's a bad idea, i'll go with a p4 1800 or so. i'll be doing some gaming and 3d design among other things, and will want about 512mb memory (already have a gf3, fine with me). overclocking would be a possiblity but not a necessity.

thanks, guys 🙂

Well, my advice is to stick with something like an XP2000 retail. It has a great HSF, you wouldn't need to oc, and it has a 3 year warranty, and is pretty cheap right now (about $100-120???) The other option is to wait until you find a 2400 (now or in the next 2 weeks) and oc the heck out of it. They are supposed to oc well, and run much cooler regardless.
