Every couple of weeks when I boot my PC running W8 Pro, it crashes with a BSOD with the above error.

System is:
Asus P8Z77-M; i7-3770K; 32G RAM; MSI Radeon HD 7850 2GB.

The CPU is Overclocked, but the problem still happens at stock CPU speed.
The Graphics card is not overclocked (other than stock overclocking).

Essentially, sometimes when the boot is just about to finish and the desktop come up, the desktop will start to appear, with the mouse cursor, flicker a few times, and then the comp reboots with a Video_TDR_Failure error screen.

I've tried the AMD 13.4, 13.5 beta and 13.6 beta drivers, and they all do exactly the same thing.

Any ideas? Is this a known issue?

How old is the build? Have you checked to see if you are having any high temperature issues with the GPU (accumulation of dust in the cooler, dried out TIM, etc.)?

Try remove any sensor utilities you have. TDR issue is a rather broad known issue on Vista/Win7 and poorly implemented by MS. However it should not reboot your system. Well, Win8 might do so...

In Vista/Win7 you can also disable the TDR check. I assume its the same in Win8.

With that said, it could still be HW related. But the issue is in short, that the OS asks the driver and GPU and dont get a reply in a predefined timelimit.
