My air-cooled Vega 64 (got it in the ~$600 game bundle by furiously refreshing on launch day) is faring well, though the throttling reminds me of how the R9 Nano handles thermals; it doesn't seem to want to run higher than ~75C - 77C range for long, regardless of settings. But set in low-power BIOS and Power Saver in Wattman it's not drawing too much power and still provides decent hashrate when mining (~30MH/s in Claymore for Ethereum-only) and performance when gaming, so I'm happy. Small upgrade from my 1070 on both fronts, but I wanted to get rid of that card after RMAing it (was experiencing artifacting), anyway.

Plus, the red and black of the air cooled version - though I do like the LC version, so shiny :p - matches my build, so there's that. But I'm probably going to transplant it out of build and switch to liquid cooling eventually, possibly flashing the Liquid BIOS and tweaking the clock speeds and voltages more.

Got a rx 56 for one of the kids today. Out of the box this card is very different to the rx 64 imo. Doesnt have remotely the same issues for heat and noise. I think its fairly acceptable and fan is running at below 2400 all the time.

Discovered the psu is 400w and not 450 i thought, and have 3 and not 2 rails as i thought, and i have a suspicion it just cant handle it 100% stable as i miss the 50w on the 12v rails or the 6pin cant pull the 8pin. We had one crash. Not ideal to convert a 6 to 8 pin...but we will tamper tomorrow to see if we can succeed. Still the amps is on 3 rails and with 380w of 12v its a bit messy. Selecting bios 2 or powersave kind of hurts even if it would solve the problem...arg.

Anyway his old hsw i5 45w tdp cpu is dog slow and it shows when you get a new gfx and play 144Hz in 1440. So its his lucky day and he is in for a 1600x

(actually a 8700k would be spot on for his gamepark but its just way to much and to late - a cheap asus am4 b350 and a 1600x is acceptable solution and will stay so - never fast but never slow - and you can hardly take a p... before that 7600 is to old. Compromises )

And yes perhaps he will get a new psu of mighty 550w. Lol

Ordered some giant Morfeus 2 cooler and 2 bequiet silent wings 3 to mod my rx64. Expensive stuff but hope to solve my noise problem. We cant have the reddit and oc guys overtake us in modding ! :)

Let us know how that works and what the installation process is like. I'm thinking about doing the same.

Yep order is placed at caseking.de
Will take pics of installation.

Btw lots of mrsp rx 56 and 64 in stock in scandinavia now at komplett. Hopefully its a sign it will come to other countries as well.

that cooler's huge. hopefully it does the trick!

I'm not modifying mine at all... want to see what the AIB bring to the table in terms of cooling; then I'll figure out what to do.

Yeaa i understand. I know i cant do with a aib solution because of experience from my prior oc msi 970 gaming.
Because the cabinett is in a closet there is to much heat and the fans work to fast. I know the silent wings 3 and they are darn good and the capacity of this cooler is just way over an aib. I just need to fit it in my fractal node 804 :)

so, is this where we go now for keeping track of the general "progression" of Vega with AIBs, 56 releases, benchmarks and such since the main thread was locked last week?

I checked prices on Newegg this morning. $600-650 for reference 56. WTF

I guess the ~45 MHS thing with mods is very real? FML.

I think it was locked because every like 5 posts started some kind of argument which escalated into nonsense. this thread seems more in line with people who actually did buy the cards and are providing their own personal feedback.

i'm happy with my 64 so far but I haven't been able to game on it since Saturday. Haven't decided if it was worth the 650 dollar hit but it certainly outclasses what I was using in terms of brute force performance. Still waiting on some new versions of tuning software but I haven't had any issues aside from that initial installation headache.

I checked prices on Newegg this morning. $600-650 for reference 56.

Last couple of weeks, the $500 Vega 56 bundle was often available at Newegg. At times a particular brand would stay up for few hours. I never saw the $400 versions there.

Since this weekend, Amazon have had $400 Vega 56 available on multiple occasions. But they do sell out in 10-12 minutes. If I wasn't waiting for the Vega 56 with third party coolers, I'd use the in-stock notification options.

'No news is good news' so I've heard, but maybe not when it comes to the AIB Vega cards.

There's good stock here of the reference 56 at ~£500, they were briefly available for pre order at £380, beginning to think I should have just grabbed one....then again if there's a similar window of opportunity for the AIBs this month that's not so bad. As much as we talk about miners taking all they can get, if the 56 isn't shifting at these sorts of prices I would hope that brings them down at least a little. Course if they become more attractive to gamers the same goes for miners, although I understand Eth mining is rapidly becoming unviable.

How to get on the $400 deal? Nowinstock will not be fast enough to alert if the stock is sold out in less than 15min.

There are scripts/apps out there, or otherwise people just refresh manually all the time.

still getting random wattman resets upon cold startups but not every time. takes two seconds to dial everything back in but I haven't been able to isolate the cause. link speed failure leads me to believe it's something with the DPs not working correctly on the card but it's more likely a bug with AMD software. my refresh rate, on one occasion, got knocked all the way down to 30hz though. kind of dumb.

Still hoping for some decent Vega 56 cards for 1440P and 1200P gaming for some new builds (haven't been in PC Gaming for years). Hoping that the AIB cards get me some stock I can actually buy, but I bet it'll be some time.

Added instructions how to mount the Morpheus cooler to Vega in the OP. - using the heatsinks that was with Morpheus - perhaps world first ;)
But the heatsinks have to be placed extreme precise.
Needless to say this is another world compared to the stock cooler.
Enjoy.

I'll take the stock cooler off your hands if you wont be using it...

Not sure how I feel about having to stick little sinks on the card... haven't done that since the late AGP days. i still have little blue Zalman ones sitting in a drawer. those things hurt real good if you step on em lol

Just picked up a Gigabyte Vega 56. Need to put it under water before I do much with it.
Anyone know whether it's possible to sell that video game bundle? Or is it tied to a particular card?

I got a code for Prey, that didn't seem account bound (gave it to a friend).

Haven't gotten the Wolfenstein one (game isn't out yet) so I don't know if they're paired yet or not.

AIB cards slated for mid to end October, so expect to actually be able to grab one some time in November.

Unless there's a significant reason to move to one I'll be sticking with my reference 64 for a bit. So far, it's been a near perfect match for my Freesync ultrawide and there's no going back; even does away with the jaggies if I want without much of a fuss

I bought a gigabyte vega 64 black a while back. Just installed an ek block. Is the temp reading and core clock accurate in Wattman? Seems to max out at 1750Mhz, didn't overclock Mem yet and gpu temp 34 C under constant load.

All seems to work perfectly fine now for the Morpheus mod. Installed the fan adapter to connect the fans to the gpu, but there was a bf1 update so dont know what the reason is. But anyway its nice to have it running.

MSI custom Vega pictured

Spoiler: It's a marginally improved reference cooler and apparently that's all we can expect from MSI.

Spotted a few 56 available at MSRP, seriously thinking about getting one since I wouldn't be surprised if it's 2018 before the custom cards are properly available. The undervolting results I've seen make me think the reference cooler might be bearable after all.

In other Vega news, the hype train has been spotted after a long period of absence.
