AMD using R600 GPU cores as Floating Point Processors

We are getting closer to where there is one huge bank of processors that compute everything for the computer. Some allocated for graphics, some for processing, others for physics, and then after that they will be fluidly allocated for tasks... And the WUs will flow....

In the thread about the AMD purchase of ATI, I tried to convince everyone that the buyout had far greater meaning than just video and the competition with NVIDEA, but the flamers wouldn't even think about it.

The Torrenza (sp?) project is essentially what you are describing. The F@H project using the X1900s is the precursor to the whole thing.
