My current rig is really starting to feel dated and I am on a very, very limited budget. Current setup is...
P4 HT 3.0GHz, 1MB cache
Intel 925X motherboard
2GB DDR2 667
Radeon 3850 512MB
I am pretty sure that the current CPU is my bottleneck that is keeping me from enjoying newer games. I am interested in buying a Sempron 140 (2.7GHz) and trying to unlock the second core. Currently I can get an ASRock 780G motherboard and the CPU for under $100 at NewEgg. I know unlocking the second core may not happen but I'm willing to take the chance. If I don't would this single core provide LESS performance than the 32-bit P4? If I scrap AMD completely and decide to purchase a nice 775 board will my current CPU be compatible with a G31/G41 solution until I purchase another CPU?
