AMDs server segment marketshare talks for itself. Opterons are terrible.

Its not FUD or misleading. The systems you link do not perform the same.

There was no scalability problem with BD Opterons, the power problem wasn't as severe at server CPU speeds as it was for high clocked consumer CPUs (though it was still an issue) - if the ST performance was there to match, it wouldn't have been an issue, sadly for AMD, as I already said, ST sucked.

Oh yes, there is a scalability problem, they could not go higher than 16T on their server SKUs. Intel could match the same number of threads but with much more performance than AMD. In fact, Intel could make SNB-EP with higher clocks than AMD 6300 chips. All that in a package 30-40% smaller. Even if AMD could match ST performance clock per clock, which would be a feat by itself considering that Bulldozer/Piledriver has less units per core and longer pipeline than Intel's chips.

It will be interesting to see if there is a delayed 200mio$ WSA payment in Q4 to GloFo. And yet another reason why AMD is forced to change the production to GloFo, impossible before because GloFo couldnt produce them.

They are when compared in the same performance area. And they got terrible scaling as well in terms of performance increase.

Else you can start by replacing the xeons with lower consuming ones until you reach the Opteron performance.

So, can you show me Throughput performance and power consumption for both 63xx Opteron and 32nm E5 XEONs ??

They are shut out of the bond market, except at junk rates, they have shed real estate assets and this last 500MM line is backed by client's receivables. They haven't many options by now, either IP sale or put the console contracts inside an SPE, or bring new investor's money on board.

That 500MM line they hired means two things for me:

- They are expecting to burn cash from their operation this and in the next few quarters.

- They have to pay GLF in full.

And while AMD is probably being forced to move the console APU's to GLF, that's far from being a bad deal unless GLF is not being as generous to AMD as they are with their other clients. Embedded business is perfect for Globalfoundries/AMD: it is high volume, it is not bleeding edge, it relies primarily on price.

I'll give you that. I thought you were talking about CPU sockets/Fabric, etc.

Oh, that realm is mostly outside CPU development. Btw, even there AMD is lagging behind Intel. QPI is faster than Hypertransport.
