According to the numerous rumors in the web, AMD is going to respond to Intel?s price drop planned for the 10 December appropriately. Namely, the company is about to reduce its won CPU prices significantly so that to bring Intel?s effort to naught. As we saw over here, AMD Athlon 1GHz, which is now selling for $350, will get almost twice as cheap: $182.
To tell the truth, we doubt the credibility of this info, because it?s just crazy to drop the price on the products that are selling quite well by 50%.
In case this info is true, there can be only one explanation. As you may know, Intel?s price reduction on 10 December will touch upon some selected CPU models and won?t be that tangible, actually. However, AMD could turn frightened by the recent launching of Intel Pentium 4 processor, which working frequencies are higher than those of the today?s eldest Athlons. Moreover, elder Athlon CPUs as well as the DDR systems aren?t yet available in retail. That?s why AMD could have decided to start another price war in order to ensure good sales before it resumes the lead.
