AMD Thoroughbred (T-bred), come out, come out wherever you are.

Anyone have any idea when the T-Bred will have the news embargo lifted or better when it might be "released" for sale. My AMD system is looking sad next to my o'clocked P4 1.6A @ 2.4GHz. In fact, my dual AMD system is jealous of my Intel system, so much so, that I have to keep them in separate rooms.
This has to be remedied by a new AMD chip installation, a 2.2 GHz will do nicely. But, where is it?

Man, I wish someone coudl tell me too. I am waiting for the damn Throoughbred too. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh AMD is killing me here!

Thanks in advance whoever can tell us when it will arrive

Thoroughbred processors are due sometime in June, at speeds of 1.67GHz to 1.93GHz.

AMD is going to release a 1.8GHz Athlon XP (non-Tbred) in the coming weeks...

I'm looking in anticipation too. Wouldnt mind some news. Since there is going to be some time until the T-bred's release, now is the time for AMD to release details.

This makes some sence as I am trying to make monetary decisions. If I knew some details I would know wether such an upgrade would be CPU only (ie: would my existing mobo (KT266A) support the new T-bred or not) or more expensive, therefore I would be able to plan my cash a little better! Come on AMD!

I have HAD it with AMD and their F***ING tardy @SSes!!! WUT IS THE MEANING OF THEIR TRUANCY?!?! DO THEY THINK IT'S FUNNY TO BAIT CONSUMERS INTO WAITING FOR A PRODUCT THAT WAS GIVEN A FALSE RELEASE DATE?!?! AND ITS NOT THE 1ST TIME EITHER!

... ahem. yes well, now that i have that matter out of my system and since i have a spare case i would like to announce that i shall be aquiring a P4 2.4GHz Northwood cpu. that coupled with a P4TE since i'll be going the RDRAM route. ppl will say..oooOOoooh rdram is dead!... well lemme ask u this... WTF ru gonna do with ddr when ddrII comes out???!!! ... get a new mobo and whole setup for it. well thats exactly wut i'm gonna do.

*edit* due to the fact that new mobos with 533fsb support are due out @ the end of this month i shall wait till they do and get those.

Now, since I haven't followed AMD very closely, I could be completely wrong in my following assumption:

Perhaps AMD hasn't rolled out the T-bred because their .13um process isn't perfect yet. I know that they [AMD] have said that it's working, and I suspect that this may be the case, but they had originally slated it for a March release date (Q1). My guess is that their yields aren't good enough yet to be able to supply the demand that will be created when it is released. Remember when Intel announced the PIII 1GHz? And how long it was before it was on sale? I don't think AMD wants a situation like that, so they may be biding their time with the release date until they have enough stock to supply the vendors.

Once again, this is only a guess.

That is probably correct info...8 weeks or so. And, as usual, intial prices will be relatively high, I'll bet.

AMD had better be careful. Unless the T-Bred is easily ramped up to higher speeds or, better yet, unless it has better specs (L2 for example), the Intel P4 route might become much more attractive than AMD would like. Well, time will tell.

My sentiments exactly. Though I could really care less when AMD releases the T-bred (I'm more of an Intel guy), I DO care when companies make false release dates that stir up the fanboys in a fit of stupidity. And this goes for any company (even Intel). I HATE missed release dates!

jbond,

thats exactly wut i'm talkin about. AT THE VERY LEAST give us some F***ing info and not leave us out in the dark with "tentative" new release dates... SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESH!

DukeChestnut, you're somewhat misinformed about Thoroughbred's release date, although it's understandable.

AMD's official statement has always been that Thoroughbred would ship during the first quarter of 2002, which it did according to AMD. Of course, shipping does not equal retail availability. Not only that, but AMD never said that the Thoroughbred shipping during the first quarter would be the desktop version of Thoroughbred. Apparently, the Thoroughbred that was shipped during Q1 was the mobile Thoroughbred, NOT the desktop Thoroughbred.

As I mentioned a few posts before, the desktop Thoroughbred will be released (not shipped) sometime in June.

AGodSpeed...well said.
Just what I would have hoped from a Platinum Member; rock solid info... the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
That is what makes these Forum posts so enjoyable.
Thanks to AGodSpeed
