AMD Thoroughbred B?

Simple question: How do you know if a CPU you are buying online is the "B" version? Don't mean to sound so dumb but I can't figure this one out.

You don't, unless you can ask them to check, or if they actually give the entire stepping-code on the website.

well...

like grak said... you don't

there are online vendors though like newegg and excaliber that are guaranteeing B's

🙂

Okay great guess I have to call the company and ask before I purchase. One more thing what is the stepping-coed and more specifically what stepping code indicates the Version B?

Thanks for the info BTW.

Ask for AXDAXXXXDUT3C.

The XXXX is the PR rating of the chip. The DUT3C denotes a Tbred "B" chip.

that works for the ones iwth 1.60vcore, but for the oens with 1.65 i think its slightly diff (xp2400+'s and stfuff)

i dont remember the exact ending...its too early....but i believe its slightly different...a letter is diff

//edit
i think its two letters now..
something like DKV3C...i think

You learn something new every day... 🙂 Did AMD make Tbred "A" chips 2400+ and faster?

nope, they didn't
they ran into problems trying to scale the original T-Bred's to 2GHz.
so they did a core revision and the T-Bred B was born

yeah, thats why they changed vcore as well - added layers

2400+ and up are tbred b for sure, but lower than that were tbred a.....until they discontinued A and introduced B for all

i guess they lowered the vcore for the lower ones, becuase they were stable, and that warranted an ending code change whereas the higher ones remained with the DKV3C (if thats the one...)
