I have an AMD T-Bird 1 Ghz and recently I have been having problems with it shutting itself down and not rebooting for a couple hours.. I've cehcked temp and it peaks at 45 celsuis, which I'm told is not very high for this brand of processor.. I have also had a recommendation to change my CAS latency from 2 to 2.5/.. but I don't want to ty anything until I ask a few other people. My system settings are as follows:

AMD T-Bird 1 Ghz
MSI K7T Pro
128 MB PC 133 SDRAM
SB LIVE Value 5.1
Voodoo3 2000(works fine for the games I play0
8x8x32 CD r/w

any help you may be able to offer would be greatly appreciated

P.S. the system only locks up when I am playing Half-life.. but has nothing to do with the video card, as it did the same thing while using a GF2 DDR

Sounds like it's overheating. I'd drop that CAS if it will help. How many watts is your power supply?

and also.... it locks up if I try to combine/decode newsgroup messages(large files only) and if I update a server list playing counter-strike9a half-life mod)

CPU isn't the only component that can overheat.

RAM can overheat, Northbridge can overheat, PSU can overheat, etc...

I agree that it sounds like something is overheating and not allowing you
to operate until it has cooled down.

My best guess is your PSU (T-Birds don't have an auto-shutdown function)
