AMD T-Bird 1.33g Overclocking Question

Haven't overclocked anything in awhile (since the celeron 300@450 deal), now I have an AMD T-Bird 1.33 ghz (133x10) and was wondering if I should go up by fsb or by multiplier?

I recalled somewhere that if you bump up the multiplier you supply more power to the processor causing more heat, and ideally you would want to just bump up FSB if the system's components can handle it. Is this true in any way? Please guide me into the right path.

P.S my current system is running at about 41-45 (idle/load)

the 1.33ghz should be multiplier unlocked so you can basically choose to either overclock by way of multiplier, or by way of fsb... heck or a combo of the two

bumping the multiplier doesnt add more power... but the faster the cpu runs the more heat it creates

but that has nothing to do with the multiplier.... for example a cpu running 10x150fsb or 1.5ghz generates the same amount of heat as 15x100fsb 1.5ghz

if you increase the fsb you are also going to be overclocking the pci and agp bus, that includes everything from your addin cards to the harddrives to the usb ports (usb is often times one of the first things to stop working when you overclock the pci bus)

if you just overclock by way of multiplier then the whole system stays in spec and just the cpu is running faster

what motherboard are you using?

hmmm i wasn't aware that the 1.33 came factory unlocked
as far as increasing the fsb that could be good just check yur bios and see how high you have to make it to make the next pci divider kick in
that will keep things in spec
when you overclock your processor by upping the FSB you not only increase the speed of you processor but also the memory

I'm running an Epox 8K7A. I think the multiplier is already unlocked.because when I originally bumped up the multiplier (when I first got it) it did seem to work.

yup all tbirds 1.2ghz or faster are factory unlocked 🙂

your board only has 1/3rd and 1/4th pci dividers, that means any thing over 133mhz fsb will just increase your pci and agp bus (it wont have another divider kick in as soulkeeper mentioned)
