AMD System Vs. Intel System

I am currently looking to upgrade my system (CPU, Mainboard and Video card). I have narrowed my options down to these two options:

Intel
3.0 G 775-T
MSI Mainboard 915
Nvidia 6600GT PCIe

Or

AMD
Athlon 3000+
Nvidia nForce 3 250GB Mainboard
Nvidia 6800 Standard

I would wait for the VIA K8T890, but from what I have read, the socket type is 939 pin. Unfortunately, this doubles the cost of the CPU. So that option is out of my budget range.

I would like advise on which setup would be better with all other hardware being equal.

What exactly do you plan on doing with this computer? Intels and AMD's are designed for different things. AMD is more geared towards gaming, while Intels are more for video editing etc (sorry if my terminology sucks)

Also, I thought that the s939 3000+ wasn't all that much more expensive than the s754 3000+. *edit* a while ago newegg had the s939 3000+ for $169.

For the mobo (if you go with a s754 3000+) I'd highly recommend the Asus K8N-E Deluxe or DFI Lanparty UT. Both are fantastic boards, especially the DFI if you plan to overclock at all.

I will be using the system for games mostly, however I may look into some pinnacle products for Analog camcorder editing.

Looks like the OEM 3000+ is about $35 more, but I cannot seem to find a retail boxed version.

amd is not designed for gaming and intel is not designed for video editing. it is just coincidence that amd's architecture runs off short pipelines and intel's runs off long pipelines, and because of those key facts, gaming and encoding happen to benefit from them.
 
Sorry, I didn't mean "designed" for, it's just what they're known for. But yeah, if he wants to game, I'd go with the AMD chip.

Here's the 3000+ for $165 @newegg. 3200+ is $39 more if you're at all interested.

One thought, if you're at all into overclocking and you want to spend a few bucks more, get this A64 mobile processor and an Asus K8N-E mobo and overclock the heck out of it. Just a thought.

One other thing to consider...you can often times find a used A64/Mobo either on the for sale/for trade forums here or on Ebay (probably better off looking here...but who knows) Might save yourself a little (or alot)
