I know this is down day for the market. But the market is arguably very efficient. AMD stock is down (2.67% as I typed) and Intel is up (.56%). Technology stocks as whole has another down day but Intel strategy of lifting the NDA is working even if we cannot buy anything yet.

AMD stock has dropped by the same or more in one day several time over the last 2 months. What is more surprising to me is how little Intel's stock has gone up.

Why would it?

1) They are taking a beating on all the netburst chips they are discounting to clear them out of inventory

2) Core 2 Duo isn't actually available to purchase yet

3) Intel expects that only 20% of it's desktop sales for this year will be Core 2 Duos. This means that Netburst will still make up the bulk of sales for this year at least.

Winning benchmarks doesn't usually influence stock prices, making quarterly profits etc does.

The Conroe revenue will not materially impact Intel revenue stream by a lot this year. Conroe will account for only 25% of Intel processors this year so supply will be limited.

The question is will we be able to buy an E6600 without price gouging?

In the stock market, nobody gives a hovering donkey about Core2 being faster than AMD64 .

The stock for both went down lately because there is a price war coming, which eats up earnings, that's what they care about.

Today Intel is not dropping because there's non-leaked proof that Intel is competitive again performance and power wise.

Intel is the one that's going to be hurting. Who would buy P4s now? Intel is going to have to just about give them away.

The whole market sucks right now, there is very little any company could say or do that would help it's stock go up...other than a miracle plan to pay all of it's workers with grass seed and whole grain bread :)

$93 for an 805D?
If that's not giving them away, I don't know what is!

$93 for an 805D just shows the insane profit margin on established chip designs.

I bought AMD stock back when they first filed unfair practice suits against Intel. I sold it after it went up 18%. What did I buy? Intel stock. So far, it hasn't done much, but I'll hold it for awhile until the Netburst chips are gone and they've written off the "loss."

Somewhere, I'm guessing mid-2007, I'll probably swap it back the other way. Gotta pay for my retirement somehow. :)

AMD's been going down since March. We might see sub-10 dollar AMD stock sometime soon, I predict.
