My issue is this, I?ve recently blown out a SOYO board that can no longer be purchased at a reasonable price due to it being Socket A. I have 4 sticks of CORSAIR ValueSelect 512MB PC3200 DDR model #VS32M8-5.
ASUS A7V880 vs. ABIT KW7
System sports a 74GB Maxtor 10,000RPM Raptor SATA HDD, 3200+ Barton, and 520w PSU. The conflict lies completely with the RAM I have to work with. The ASUS site has a RAM compatibility layout (see bottom of page)which shows that my specific model of RAM is not supported as two pairs of dual channel DDR. The ABIT site has no information pertaining to this issue.
I have already purchased the ASUS board and had originally intended to use it for the girls computer we?re building but have since fallen in love with the board and would prefer to swipe it from her if possible due to how easy it makes overclocking, however I have issues where with all 4 sticks of RAM installed on the board and dual channel enabled oftentimes when starting the system up it does not post. No power is given to keyboard/mouse so it does not even reach the detection process it simply sits black screened until I shut it down and start it up. At this point in true ASUS fashion the board will start up in their diagnostic mode running at 1100mhz on a 2200mhz Athalon XP. No changes are needed at this point I can actually just skip all the way to the exit screen and the system restarts and loads Windows XP Professional SP1 normally. Shutting down the system for more than five to ten minutes at a time repeats this process of starting up to a black screen and being forced to shut down, go through bios and restart ? essentially I have to start the computer three times just to get it running and if it directly related to the RAM I need to know this.
My new problem is that if this issue IS directly related to the RAM I am using, I will simply use the ASUS board for the second system and order the ABIT KW7 ? however their site does not list if this board would be compatible with the same 2GB (512x4 CORSAIR ValueSelect) RAM setup, and I do not wish to run into the same issues with the ABIT board that I am currently experiencing with the ASUS board.
If anyone can shed some light on these issues or give me suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
