If one can notice something "smoother" than the other, it would have to be measurable in some way (latency) or other and certainly would be made a huge issue of by so many reviewers and tech sites. Any reviewer worth his salt would have looked into it as it would be a big story not easy to ignore. But. Nothing there. The likelihood of imagination or placebo (based on wishful thinking) would seem to me a far greater probability at play here than anything else.

Assuming that there is actually anything behind the OPs claims, I don't actually think tech sites would necessarily have picked up on it, I mean they have been testing GPUs for 20 years, but it wasn't until recently that they noticed single GPU stuttering, and proved its existence using FCAT.

I still wait to see any edvidence about AMD being smoother. And the OP seems to have made the thread just to stir the pot.

CPU testing is far more extensive (in good review sites) than with GPUs. Far more testing scenarios are run, some of which include cache and memory subsystems performance as well as multi-tasking, the only 'theoretically' possible areas that can affect anything having to do with 'smoothness' outside the PEBKAC question and/or software/driver anomalies.

Techreport do something similar with FCAT testing on CPUs, ie, latency impact of multi-tasking of gaming and video editing:

Cannot think of any other measurable areas that can (theoretically) impact perceived 'smoothness' - if CPU related - than these. If there are, what could they be or relate to? My guess: errant software, drivers or simply PEBKAC. Bear in mind, there are thousands of former AMD users that have switched to Intel and the vast majority have reported no such thing as 'smoothness'. I do not doubt that there are a few who think or do experience this smoothness, but again, it is unlikely having anything to do with the CPUs but rather the other variables mentioned.
