The "InkWell" has some hammer pictures up here Inquirer. They show a beautiful Athlon64 Laptop; a four way Opteron Box; and an Athlon64 vs. P4 3ghz w/hyperthreading.

Looks very Tasty indeed!! :D

just read it
the Athlon 64 3000+ beats the P4 3GHz by quite a lot
maybe this is because they're perparing for Prescott and the 800MHz FSB

I thought mobile variants of CPUs usually hit the streets before their desktop counterparts...

Of course, it should be noted they tested P4 system with single channel DDR333 and integrated Intel 2D/3D graphics, while the 2.0GHz (3000+) Athlon64 system had the Hammer version of nForce with dual DDR400 and much faster nVidia Geforce4Mx graphics.

yes, so? Why shouldn't they demo the notebook-chips? Why is the release of the desktop-chips such a moment that only after that moment, they can demo their mobile-chips?

The firm also had two systems side by side. One had an Athlon 64 3000+ inside, the other an Intel 3.06GHz CPU. Aside from the chipsets/motherboards, the Nforce 2 and the 845PE respectively, the machines were identically configured.

I fail to see them talk about integrated graphics. And if they did use integrated graphics, wouldn't it just show that the AMD-platform has superior integrated-GFX-solutions available than the P4 one?

Ok, this may be a dumb question, but when can we expect notebooks using the Athlon 64 chip? Ive been looking at x86 notebooks off and on recently and thought I would wait for Intel's new mobile chip. But if a mobile hammer is going to be released in the near future I may wait...

There will be a mobile version of Hammer coming up. According to that article, it too will be released in september.

Actually, the side-by-side comparison in photoshop is a Barton, not Hammer.

At least, according to AnandTech.

Thanks, you could have just said RTFA (Read The Friggin Article) though ;)

I guess Ill wait to see how Intel's chip does before deciding how long I can wait. If the mobile chip has the features of the desktop chip, I can wait (or atleast find a cheap/used x86 laptop to hold me over).

the fact that the AMD box was using an nForce2 should have clued people in. and i don't think it was quite fair with that mother board matchup.

I did wonder about the nForce2-reference in the article. But I just assumed that it was a mix-up by the writer and he really meant nForce's Hammer-version.
